Adelaide Tompkins used to say she had it all. She had a husband and they were expecting their first child. Then everything had gone to hell, literally. She had been taken from her home when James had been too far away to do anything and tied to a stake to die. That was three hundred years ago. She'd vowed that she would return, that all her friends would return as well but there had to be a caveat. Something she didn't want to deal with. Only with the rebirth of the soul of John Putnam would the guardians return and return the had. Adele had only hoped that the others had not had all of their memories in tact like she had. It was hard growing up knowing she was someone else, and waiting, trying to find time to get where she needed to be. If nothing else she was a determined young woman. It was why her parents had been so willing to lock her away in the 'asylum'. How could any girl her age act like she was someone from three hundred years prior. It mattered not that if they did research they'd find she was a dead ringer. No she was crazy.
[break][break]
It had been a week since Adele had escaped the asylum. Her ascension into her full powers had triggered a massive explosion and she'd been thrown from the rubble by the fire. Having no doubt that they would send more hunters after her, Adele had booked it. She had left to go to the only place she knew. Ipswich. She'd made it, it had taken her a week but she'd made it. Now she was wandering around the Old colony trying to find anything that looked the same. Her bare feet were bleeding and crusted with dirt and mud. Her long brown hair was matted to her face a mix of blood and rain from the early morning storm. Her big blue doe eyes were filled with expressions that most didn't get to see. At least not the ones that mattered. Anyone that knew Adele would know that you could read so easily. It was one of the few things about her. People could never tell if she was lying because her eyes would show them so much at once. Her skin was pale, much more pale than normal and her breathing was coming out ragged.[break][break]
It was amazing that Adele was able to stand at all. She'd been through a lot she knew that much and her body was protesting each step. Her clothing was ripped, charred and covered in blood, grime and dirt. Adele had no idea the extent of her injuries anymore. It was clear, however, that she had been tortured. She just needed to find one of the two homes she was familiar with. One being her own families old colony house and the other the Danvers. Either one would offer her a chance to rest, shower and a change of clothing. What Adele hoped was that no one had come in and torn it down. It should have remained untouched for three hundred years with only certain people being able to get close. The Covenant of Silence being one of them, and herself of course. Slowly the young woman walked her way through the colony as she remembered it. Past the place where she was killed and further towards the woods. Their houses had been near each other but far enough away that they had privacy. They were also the furthest from the town. Helping to hide away their secrets. [break][break]
With every step this place brought Adele back in time. Back to the sixteen hundreds when it had been lively. Past the square where they would gather for the town bonfire and celebrate births. Soon enough her tired body and eyes spotted the house she thought she'd never see again. As she slowly made her way to the house, Adele willed herself to move with every fraction of a second. She couldn't afford to collapse now, not when she was so close to her goal. Crossing the yard from the Danvers house towards hers she could feel the wards pulling at her. She had set them off on purpose. It would alert someone that she was back. They were, after all, wards she'd set herself and only she and James had known about. Not that she expected James to survive this long. She had only known that Putnam's soul would return not if her beloveds would. It was something she would find out soon enough. Adele thought she could make it but her legs gave out underneath her halfway across her yard. Her body, not strong enough to keep it going, collapsed right along with it. Her body just could not handle any more pressure on it.
